Colombo Institutite’s program in visual culture and exhibititons is run by Millennium Art Contemporary (MiAC). MiAC is a non-profit art initiative established to provide the contemporary art community with an institutional structure for holding art events to initiate discussions on contemporary art and to revisit relevant historical lineages that have been overlooked or marginalized. Specifically targeting knowledge dissemination to young artists, art students and art audiences to expand their perspectives on art, MiAC hopes to generate innovation in thinking, practicing and looking at contemporary art. Through facilitating skill-enhancement programs, grant schemes, participating in international and regional art programs, MiAC’s intention is facilitate artists’ mobility and to help build networks in Sri Lankan and beyond. Sri Lanka has a growing community of artists and a young contemporary art scene. However, the institutional structures to support the demands of the artists have not grown in comparison to the expansion of demographics of artists. As such, one could see lack of opportunities for enhancing one’s art knowledge and skills, resulting in stagnation in the growth of artists’ practices. MiAC’s programs are specifically designed to support certain lacks seen in the artist support system.
Some of the programs put together by MiAC that will recur yearly include the exhibition season and specially curated exhibitions and retrospectives, international art residencies, and artists’ colloquiums. In addition, through its art library programs, MiAC will hold a series of lectures on art, film shows and panel discussions on relevant topics in collaboration with Colombo Institute.
MiAC is located at Millennium City, Athurugiriya, Sri Lanka and will be accessible to the public after 18th February 2025.
කොළඹ ආයතනයේ දෘශ්‍ය සංස්කෘතිය පිළිබඳ වැඩසටහන සහ එහි කලා ප්‍රදර්ශන ක්‍රියාත්මක කරනු ලබන්නේ මිලේනියම් ආට් කොන්ටෙම්පොරරි (Millennium Art Contemporary, MiAC) සංවිධානය විසිනි. MiAC යනු සමකාලීන කලා ප්‍රජාවට කලාව පිළිබඳ තත්කාලීන සාකච්ඡා ආරම්භ කිරීමට සහ නොසලකා හරින ලද හෝ ආන්තිකත්වයට පත් කර ඇති, ඓතිහාසිකව වැදගත් වන කේන්ද්‍රීය කලා සම්බන්ධතා නැවත සලකා බැලීම සඳහා ආයතනික ව්‍යුහයක් ලබා දීම උදෙසා පිහිටුවන ලද ලාභ නොලබන කලා වැඩසටහනකි. විශේෂයෙන් තරුණ කලාකරුවන්, කලාව හදාරන සිසුන් සහ කලා ප්‍රේක්ෂකයින් තුල කලාව පිළිබඳ ඇති ඔවුන්ගේ දැක්ම පුළුල් කිරීම සඳහා දැනුම ව්‍යාප්ත කිරීම ඉලක්ක කර ගනිමින්, සමකාලීන කලාව පිළිබඳ අලුතින් සිතීම, කලාව අභ්‍යාස කිරීම සහ කලාව දෙස බැලීම යන කරුණු සම්බන්ධයෙන් නව ප්‍රවේශ උත්පාදනය කිරීමට MiAC බලාපොරොත්තු වේ. කුසලතා වැඩි දියුණු කිරීමේ වැඩසටහන්, ප්‍රදාන යෝජනා ක්‍රම, ජාත්‍යන්තර සහ කලාපීය කලා වැඩසටහන්වලට සහභාගී වීමට අවකාශ සැලැස්වීම හරහා MiAC හි අභිප්‍රාය වන්නේ කලාකරුවන්ගේ සංචලනය පහසු කිරීම සහ ශ්‍රී ලංකාව තුල සහ ඉන් ඔබ්බෙහි සම්බන්ධතා ජාල ගොඩනැගීමට උපකාර කිරීමයි. ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ව්‍යාප්තවෙමින් පවතින කලාකරුවන්ගේ ප්‍රජාවක් සහ සාපේක්ෂ වශයෙන් නවමු සමකාලීන කලා ක්ෂේත්‍රයක් ඇත. එනමුත්, මෙරට සිටින කලාකරුවන්ගේ සංඛ්‍යාවට සාපේක්ෂව කලාකරුවන්ගේ අවශ්‍යතාවලට සහාය දැක්වීමේ ආයතනික ව්‍යුහයන් වර්ධනය වී නොමැත. ඒ නිසා, කලාකරුවන්ගේ දැනුම සහ කුසලතා වැඩි දියුණු කිරීමට ඇති අවස්ථාවල හිඟකම හා කලාකරුවන්ගේ පරිචයන් වර්ධනය නොවී තිබීමේ හැකියාව බෙහෙවින් වැඩිය. MiAC සංවිධානයේ වැඩසටහන් විශේෂයෙන් නිර්මාණය කර ඇත්තේ කලාකරුවන්ගේ උපකාරක පද්ධතියේ දක්නට ලැබෙන ඇතැම් ඌනතාවලින් මිදීමට සහාය වීම සඳහා ය.
MiAC සංවිධානය විසින් සංවිධානය කරන ඇතැම් වැඩසටහන් වාර්ෂිකව පුනරාවර්තනය වනු ඇත. මේවා අතර එහි ‘ප්‍රදර්ශන සමය’ සහ විශේෂයෙන් අභිරක්ෂණය කරන ලද සමකාලීන සහ ප්‍රත්‍යාවර්තන ප්‍රදර්ශන, ජාත්‍යන්තර කලා සහභාගීත්ව වැඩසටහන් සහ කලාකරුවන්ගේ සංවාද ඇතුලත් වේ. මීට අමතරව, MiAC විසින් සිය කලා පුස්තකාල වැඩසටහන් ඔස්සේ චිත්‍රපට දර්ශන, කලාව පිළිබඳ දේශන සහ තෝරාගත් තේමා ඔස්සේ සංවිධානය කළ සාකච්ඡා මාලාවක් කොළඹ ආයතනය සමඟ පවත්වනු ඇත.
MiAC අතුරුගිරියේ මිලේනියම් සිටි හි පිහිටා ඇති අතර, 2025 පෙබරවාරි 18 න් පසු එහි වැඩසටහන්වලට ඕනෑම අයෙකුට ප්‍රවේශ විය හැක.
